Govt calls Hasina‍‍`s verdict historic, urges people to stay calm, restraint

The interim government has termed the death sentences handed down to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in the crimes against humanity case as a historic judgment.

In a statement issued on Monday, the government said the ruling carries deep significance, especially for the families who lost their loved ones in the July uprising. Even so, it urged citizens to remain calm, responsible and restrained in the aftermath of the verdict.

The statement called on everyone to avoid any kind of unruly behaviour, provocation, violence or illegal activities during this sensitive period.

“This verdict—long awaited by many, particularly the families of those martyred in the July movement—may naturally stir strong emotions. But those emotions must not be allowed to disrupt public order,” the statement read.

The government further cautioned that any attempt to create chaos, instability or disturb the law-and-order situation would be dealt with firmly.
